Parish Ministries  (Committees/Organizations)

In the many ministries at St. Lawrence, we find dedicated individuals that together are able to accomplish great things for our Lord Jesus Christ. The best Christian message anyone can proclaim to the world is in their lives. In working, praying, singing, sharing, teaching, we develop friendship bonds that reach out to everyone. In sharing time, talent and treasure we grow as the living example of God's love for us.

We invite you to join us in growing in your relationship with Jesus Christ and his church through participation in one or more of the parish ministries offered at St. Lawrence.

Our parish has ministries that serve every area of human need. For further information contact the parish office at stlawrch@bellsouth.net  or call the parish office at 928-5931.

Liturgical Ministries

St. Lawrence Catholic Church offers many opportunities for our parishioners to become more involved in the beautiful celebration of the Mass. We encourage all members of our parish, young and old, to prayerfully consider offering your special talents and time to serving in one of our weekly Masses.

We provide training in all Liturgical Ministries, and so you need not have any prior experience. We offer the following Liturgical Ministries for parishioners to become more involved in the Mass: Altar Servers, Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, Lectors and Music. For further information contact the parish office at stlawrch@bellsouth.net or call the parish office at 928-5931.

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion

The Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion assist the celebrant with the distribution of the Body and Blood of Christ at Mass. These Ministers also assist the priests by bringing Holy Communion to the homebound.

By making it possible for laypersons to serve as Ministers of Holy Communion, the Church is providing an opportunity for the laity to take a more active role in the Ministry to others. A Parishioner who is homebound for an extended period of time and wishes to receive Holy Communion should contact the Rectory.  The schedule for serving in this ministry is prepared quarterly and as needed on holidays and other special liturgies.  Parishioners who are interested in this ministry should contact the Pastor.

Ministry of the Word - Readers

It is through the Ministry of the Word that God's Living Word continues to be proclaimed to His people.  Readers also read the Prayer of the Faithful.  The schedule for serving in this ministry is prepared twice each year and as needed for holidays and other special liturgies.  Parishioners who are interested in this ministry should contact the Administration Office to have their name put on the list of readers.  To be an active Reader, it takes some preparations.  Please review the following to prepare for the proclamation of the Word in both a practical and spiritual manner.

Music Ministry

Our Music Ministry is under the direction of Jimmy Jones. We have four choirs, as well as cantors and accompanists who enhance our Masses throughout the liturgical year. All choirs meet on Wednesdays -- The four choirs are:

bullet

Parish Choir:  Provides music usually for the 8:30am Sunday Mass and for other special liturgies.  Rehearsal is Wednesday evening at 7:00 pm.

bullet

The Angel Choir:  Grades 1-5, provides music once a month at 11:00am Mass and other special liturgies.  Rehearsal is Wednesday at 4:00 pm.

bullet

Teen Choir:  7-12 grade, provides music once a month at 11:00am Mass and once a month at the Sunday evening Life Teen Mass as well as other special liturgies.  Rehearsal is Wednesday at 5:30pm.

bullet

Life Teen Praise Band:  Provides music usually for the 5:30pm Sunday Life Teen Mass.

For specific information pertaining to the choirs, please refer to our Sunday Bulletin or contact Jimmy Jones at 928-5931 or jramseyjones@gmail.com

Altar Servers

Our Altar Servers play an important role in helping the priest celebrate the Mass. He/she is the celebrant's right hand helper. To become an Altar Server, he/she has to be in the fourth grade, or older, have received their First Holy Communion, and be willing to serve scheduled Masses, and be available, on occasion, if requested to serve weddings, funerals, and other ceremonies. New Altar Server classes are held each year. Times and dates are posted in the bulletin when classes begin.

Ushers

The Usher's ministry is to greet people warmly, to introduce newcomers, to help people find seating, to care for any special needs (e.g. notifying the priest to bring communion to parishioners who cannot walk to the altar), to take up the collections, to help with good order at communion, to distribute bulletins, and to direct people in any way that may be appropriate for a particular celebration.  Ushers should always be conscious of their actions when practicing their role within as well as outside Holy Mass. Ushers are assigned to a team which rotates service every other month.  Ushers can choose their preferred ass time in scheduling.  Parishioners of high school age and older are welcome to usher.

Children's Liturgy of the Word

Children's Liturgy of the Word is first and foremost a worship experience. This is a concerned and sensitive way to enable children to participate in the formal worship experience of the community. The celebrations of these liturgies are intended to immerse them in the Word in ways that are understandable to them. St. Lawrence Catholic Church celebrates Children's Liturgy of the Word each Sunday morning during the school year at 8:30 and 11:00 am Masses. Children ages 4-9 will be given the opportunity to go in procession to hear and discuss the Liturgy of the Word readings. The children are led by four adult Children's Liturgy Team members. If you have any questions or would like to volunteer, please contact Shannon Roh at 928-5931 or at slccdevelopment@bellsouth.net.
